“Time flies when you’re having fun” is a sentiment that gets tossed around a lot, acting as an excuse for wasted days and long shifts at work. It’s a pretty disagreeable saying, time flies regardless of how much fun is being had. That’s why it’s more important to cherish the moments when time seems to slow down to a more casual pace and new music is the perfect sedative for a sprinting clock. This week, we have a very exciting list of new releases. Everything from dream collaborations to refreshing LPs brimming with personality is covered on this rather crisp autumn day.

Check out Glide’s picks for the best new music of the week below.

Lydia Loveless – “Poor Boy”

Nothing’s Gonna Stand in My Way

The latest album from the endlessly talented songwriter Lydia Loveless is another feather in the cap of an established powerhouse. Nothing’s Gonna Stand in My Way is their first album since 2020 and it packs one hell of a punch. “Poor Boy” is an early favorite as Loveless stretches their vocals to their furthest extent over shredding guitars for some otherworldly textures.

Devendra Banhart – “May”

Flying Wig

The legendary and prolific Devendra Banhart has emerged with a new album filled with synth-based psychedelia and chugging arrangements. Flying Wig is out today and brings with it a level of vulnerable songwriting only achievable by an immensely confident artist. “May” is a tender ballad lined with ambient keys that lift the vocals to heaven’s height for a glimmering track.

Brent Cobb – “Devil Ain’t Done”

Southern Star

Country/folk music is entering what feels like a complete creative renaissance and it’s artists like Brent Cobb leading the charge. Cobb’s latest album, Southern Star, exceeds expectations with enough charming twang and masterful uses of tone to make this a must-listen. “Devil Ain’t Done” is as infectious as it gets, a whistling harmonica cuts through Cobb’s low vocals for a late-night anthem.

Teenage Fanclub – “Falling Into the Sun”

Nothing Lasts Forever

The new Teenage Fanclub album is everything and anything we could have dreamed of. Lush vocals guide you through a plethora of moods and tones on Nothing Lasts Forever, the band’s first album since 2021’s Endless Arcade. “Falling Into The Sun” sounds exactly like the title, a cloud-like arrangement with gliding vocals that evokes the sensation of floating.

MIKE, Wiki & The Alchemist – “Scribble Jam”

Faith Is A Rock

The all-stars of Hip-hop’s Eastern Conference team up with one of the most prolific and legendary producers of the past decade. MIKE and Wiki handle the verses on their new Alchemist-produced Faith Is A Rock LP, which follows up a small EP the trio put together last year. “Scribble Jam” displays the chemistry of the project in a flurry of expertly chopped samples for MIKE and Wiki to pen literary portraits over for one of the better Hip-hop releases of the year.

Little Brother – “Glory Glory”

Single

The iconic Hip-hop group Little Brother returns with an explosion of veteran bars over gorgeous instrumentals. The pair sound better than over on their two-pack single with “Glory Glory” truly showing why Little Brother achieved this level of longevity. Conductor Williams crafts a heaven-sent beat for Big Pooh and Phonte to get plenty off of their chest.

Crumb & Melody’s Echo Chamber – “Le Temple Volant”

Single

Another dream collaboration enters this week’s list with indie legends Crumb and Melody’s Echo Chamber combining forces for plush pop that evokes the feeling of a colorful sunrise. “Le Temple Volant” is lined with sinfully sweet textures that feel palpable for a subtle yet wildly infectious single.

Faye Webster – “Lifetime”

Single

For her second single of 2023, Atlanta’s Faye Webster crafts an abstract snapshot of her current mind state. “Lifetime” features a sweeping arrangement that evokes the feeling of sky-diving, a perfect canvas for Webster’s poetic songwriting and tear-jerking vocal performance.

Johnny Marr – “Somewhere”

Spirit Power: The Best of Johnny Marr

The legend of Johnny Marr continues to grow as the legendary guitarist attempts to fit his colorful career into two discs. Spirit Power: The Best of Johnny Marr will be released on November 3 and feature some of the artist’s best tracks along with two brand-new songs, “Somewhere” is one of those two. The lead single for Marr’s career compilation is as infectious as his classics, a chugging arrangement that fits his soaring vocals perfectly for a stadium-sized anthem.

Chelsea Wolfe – “Dusk”

Single

Chelsea Wolfe is making some major career moves. Along with the announcement of her signing to Loma Vista Records and a massive tour coming in 2024, Wolfe releases a hauntingly beautiful single to tie it all together. “Dusk” feels just right for the upcoming fall weather, a crawling arrangement allows Wolfe’s elastic vocals to find solace in silky melodies.

The Vaccines – “Heartbreak Kid”

Pick-Up Full Of Pink Carnations

The prolific and proficient Vaccines are emerging with a brand new album that is already promising to be something special. Pick-Up Full Of Pink Carnations isn’t set to be released until January 12, 2024, but the album’s lead single is enough to keep us satisfied in the interim. “Heartbreak Kid” is an incredibly charming single that comes with blazing tempos and a danceable arrangement.
