Alice Cooper, the legendary Godfather of Shock Rock, returned to Tucson on October 21st during his “Too Close for Comfort” tour. Even though the Arizona native normally tours six months out of the year, it’s been seven years since Cooper’s last appearance at AVA Amphitheater at Casino Del Sol in Tucson. However, the memory of his vaudevillian, shock-rock show lingers on. Many artists from Cooper’s genre are getting close to retirement, but that is not true with the 75-year-old Cooper, who was recently quoted as saying he will play live until age 90 if he can.
His new album, Road, was released this year and is his 29th studio album to date. It was recorded live in the studio with his touring band: guitarists Nita Strauss, Ryan Roxie, and Tommy Henriksen, bassist, Chuck Garric, and drummer, Glen Sobel. The first single from the album released is “I’m Alice.” Although this tour is supporting the new album Road, the show was filled with most of his hit songs starting from the 70s through to the present. Copper next plays Arizona for his annual Christmas Pudding performance.
