In the year since their last release, 2022’s MAD, Shady Oaks has had the chance to calm down a little, to process the angst and anger that permeated that EP, and focus on looking inward.
Shady Oaks’ “Best Thing” has a runtime of 3:28 and you will be dancing for even longer after the groovy twang enters your speakers. The band combines the energy of a rowdy honky tonk with expert musicianship and a mastery of tone that will have the biggest curmudgeon stomping their feet. The Rockabilly anthem is as powerful as it is fun, under the hectic tempos and chaotic textures there is songwriting containing vivid imagery of relying on the people around you to catch you when you fall. “Best Thing” is an anthem waiting to be discovered, take it with you through your day for an extra burst of two-stepping tempos and booming instrumentation.
