Molly Horses is a four-piece noise-punk band formed in 2023 in Los Angeles, CA. Combining elements of post-punk, krautrock, and Albini-esque noise rock, Molly Horses released their first self-recorded single “Beatty” in December of 2023. Members Harry James and Cormac Brown (members of FonFon Ru) Tim Wright (Founding member of Wilderness) and Malcolm Watts utilize their production and engineering backgrounds to self-produce material with an emphasis on a DIY mindset. Molly Horses is currently hard at work on their debut full-length album.
Post-punk is a very abstract genre, it could be interpreted in a multitude of ways. For Molly Horses, it comes in the form of crunchy textures and head-spinning guitar chords that paint a unique approach to the genre. “King Dundalk” is one of those songs that turn you into a fan instantly, off-kilter vocals seem to levitate over a stadium-sized arrangement for a unique take on the modern post-punk scene. “King Dundalk” explores the concept of the class divide as they pen vivid imagery and set it to searing punk with psychedelic undertones.
“This is a song written about a very specific type of person from my hometown,” explains the band on their new single. “Kin Someone who is in such deep denial that their own actions have put them where they are and grasp feverishly at anything that gives them a momentary feeling of success and satisfaction. Written both as a reminder to myself to pay attention to my daily actions and make sure I’m always trying to better myself and as a commentary on those I see myself in if I were to make too many wrong moves.”
