Kim Gordon – “It’s Dark Inside”

The Collective

The iconic bassist Kim Gordon has returned with a new LP and its glitchy drums and warping vocal effects give The Collective a hyper-pop feel with a veteran twist. Gordon melts into the hectic arrangements lined with electronic quips and off-kilter drum tones for an unpredictable LP worth getting lost in. “It’s Dark Inside” is a moody take on the album’s avant-garde production style, the chaotic nature, and hauntingly stunning melodies somehow flip this nightmare fuel into a passionate alt-pop ballad.

Slow Hollows – “Tired”

Bullhead

A promising young band turned expansive solo project, Austin Feinstein has revived Slow Hollows in a stunning display of diverse songwriting. Bullhead is the first Slow Hollows album since their split in 2019 and Feinstein didn’t pick up where the band left off, he made the project his own. “Tired” is one of the more conventional tracks but also one of the most poetic showcases of Feinstein’s diversity as a writer. In a tight pop structure, the artist pens a moving ballad with a slight bounce and a whole lot of sentimental longing.

MIKE & Tony Seltzer – “Lethal Weapon”

Pinball

One of the most exciting young acts in hip-hop has teamed up with an equally promising producer for a refreshing take on his unique style. MIKE and Tony Seltzer showcase jaw-dropping chemistry on Pinball. Seltzer’s bouncy and bright arrangements feel like new territory for MIKE although the emcee sounds right at home. “Lethal Weapon” is an infectious track that showcases MIKE’s ability to write to just about anything and Seltzer’s unique fusion of bouncy drums and dusty loops.

Vanillaroma – “Disaster”

I’ll Remember Next Time

Vanillaroma has been slowly toiling away on its unique take on modern rock by intertwining pop-style melodies and vulnerable songwriting. I’ll Remember Next Time is a quick yet potent project that acts as a mile marker for the band’s progress towards perfecting their style, and it seems like perfection is right around the corner. “Disaster” is a moody ballad with palpable emotions familiar to one and all, muted vocals nuzzle next to jagged guitars for an anthem worth putting on repeat.

Judas Priest – “Giants In The Sky”

Invincible Shield

The metal gods have split the clouds and descended to earth for another brand new LP, their 19th one to be exact. Judas Priest is one of the most iconic and prolific bands of their time and Invincible Shield has the band proving that sentiment further with anthems galore and their signature take on metal. “Giants In The Sky” sounds like it was pulled from one of the band’s earlier releases, larger-than-life chords crash around fierce vocals for a passionate track that cuts through the room with ease.

Moor Mother – “DEATH BY LONGITUDE”

The Great Bailout

The eclectic and ever-impressive Moor Mother is back with their most ambitious and abstract album to date. The Great Bailout is an avalanche of syncopated arrangements that act as a canvas for Moor Mother’s unpredictable melodies and purposeful songwriting. “DEATH BY LONGITUDE” features a spoken-word poem by Moor Mother set to a minimal ambiance with a hauntingly infectious twist.

Alex Jordan – “Green Tends to Fade”

Queen Kerosene

Adding his own version of twang to rock-influenced arrangements that even lean a little to the folk side at moments, Alex Jordan’s fusion of the modern landscape equates to something entirely new. Queen Kerosene is Jordan’s sophomore release and it is brimming with heartfelt songwriting set to a colorful array of instrumentation. “Green Tends to Fade” features a touch of brass melodies that bring Jordan’s poetry to life, an anthem you won’t know you need until you press play.

Of Montreal – “Yung Hearts Bleed Free”

Lady on the Cusp

Of Montreal has made a career of spinning synth-pop on its head to create otherworldly textures that emphasize his diversity as a vocalist. They continue their domination of the alt-pop world on Lady on the Cusp, their new album set to be released on May 17. “Yung Hearts Bleed Free” is our first look at the new project, lush backing vocals give the song a dream-like texture as the vocalist delivers off-kilter melodies that are lined with infectious drum patterns.

Bad Bad Hats – “Tpa”

Bad Bad Hats

Speaking of making pop your own, Bad Bad Hats have announced their new self-titled LP and its lead single is all you need to get excited about the upcoming album. “Tpa” has the band putting their twist on pop-rock with gentle harmonies and a minimal arrangement that, thanks to the song’s structure, feels full and alive. The trio’s self-titled LP is set to be released on April 12.

Iron & Wine & Fiona Apple – “All in Good Time”

Light Verse

Grab a box of tissues and hug a loved one before putting on this tear-jerking ballad from veteran Iron & Wine. “All in Good Time” is a sentimental ballad about patience and trusting that everything will fall in place. With the help of fellow veteran Fiona Apple, Iron & Wine crafted a beautiful ballad bursting with bellowing melodies. “All in Good Time” will be featured on Iron & Wine’s upcoming Light Verse album which is due out on April 26.

Kamasi Washington – “Prologue”

Fearless Movement

Kamasi Washington has long established himself on the Mount Rushmore of modern jazz and he looks to further prove himself on Fearless Movement. The exciting new LP is set to be released on May 3 and will have guest appearances from André 3000, BJ The Chicago Kid, and Thundercat. “Prologue” has Washington’s cosmic take on jazz being whittled down to something entirely new, a danceable syncopation drives this track as Washington’s saxophone soars to new heights.

Jean Dawson – “Taste like Metal”

Boohoo – EP

With a surprise three-pack of new music, the eccentric singer/songwriter Jean Dawson brings things down to earth with three gorgeous ballads that tug at the heartstrings as much as they bend the mind. “Taste like Metal” feels like the purest form of Dawson’s take on the concept of a ballad, subtle piano drives the arrangement as the artist pens abstract poetry that finds a way to hit exactly where it needs to.

Aaron Lee Tasjan – “Dylan Shades”

Stellar Evolution

As if we needed any more reason to be excited about the new Aaron Lee Tasjan album, the artist delivers another hypnotic single. “Dylan Shades” is a lush synth-pop ballad with cascading tones that drown out the world for a moment, making room to listen to Tasjan’s expert songwriting. Stellar Evolution is set to be released on April 12.

Wand – “Help Desk”

Single

For their first release since 2019, Wand has returned with something extraordinary. “Help Desk” marks the return of Wand while also showcasing their progression since 2019’s Laughing Matter LP. Wistful vocals find a home in the minimal drums of the single, creating textures that sound like snow falling as Wand makes their triumphant return with moving sentiments.

Marcus King – “Hero”

Mood Swings

The idea that Marcus King and Rick Rubin would connect for an album is enough to make any modern country fan rejoice, the fact it is happening could make a stoic man crack a smile. Mood Swings is set to be released on April 5 and its latest single has King at his best. A subtle arrangement with the perfect amount of twang acts as a canvas for King’s soulful approach to country.
