The long-term history of Fleetwood Mac is all too often overlooked, partly because of the sad demise of British guitarist Peter Green in his later years. After a stint in John Mayall’s Bluesbreakers (where he replaced Eric Clapton), the guitarist founded Fleetwood Mac in 1967 and quickly established the new band as a distinctive entry into the blues boom happening in England around that time. Before departing three years later, the gifted musician had developed as an impressive songwriter, composing notable tunes including “Black Magic Woman” (covered by Santana on their sophomore album of 1970 Abraxas) that brought palpable success to this first of many, many Macs. Featured in this performance is one of the more notable selections, “Oh Well,” from Then Play On, the definitive LP of this era in the iconic band’s career.
