In a rebellious act against the powers that be, singer/songwriter Nathan Evans Fox pens “Landlords, Bill Lee, etc.” Aiming at corrupt politicians and money-hungry opportunists, the single takes tropes from country and folk to find its twangy tones and dusty melodies. A simplistic arrangement speaks volumes as slow-burning tempos accent Fox’s dynamic vocal performance. The star of the show is the songwriting. Fox writes from a unique perspective in country music as he holds nothing back. “Landlords, Bill Lee, etc.” is an anthem for the average people who get lost in the shuffle of a system. Nathan Evans Fox writes an alt-country ballad with expressive musicianship and heartfelt lyrics.
“I wrote this song because I realized most of my least favorite people—landlords, the governor of Tennessee, rich folks—will never be my neighbors, so I’ll never have a chance to tell them ‘Bless your heart,'” explains Evans on the new single. “I know bad things tend to happen to good people, so I’m hoping this song helps invert that trend.”
