Manic Monday: X Gets Primal With Heavy Take On “Nausea” (Live 1980)

Let’s talk about X. No, not the social media site formally known as Twitter, but the famed punk band from LA, of course!  X is a band that occasionally seems to get left out of the conversation when discussing some of the greatest punk bands of all time, which is interesting, considering just how great their first couple of albums (namely Los Angeles) were. Granted, they purposely steered their sound in a more accessible direction as the 1980s went on (with mixed results to boot), so perhaps that’s part of the reason why their name doesn’t come up more often when discussing the upper echelon of great punk bands. But, whatever the case, their early years were undisputably straight fire, as evidenced by this delightfully nasty performance of “Nausea” from 1980.

X never really had the reputation as being the heaviest/meanest punk band in the land, but one glimpse of this bruising moshpit just might change some perceptions on that front. In any event, this footage is pure, grade A, 100% down and dirty punk. So good it hurts (probably not as much as that moshpit, but nonetheless). Dig it:
