Pulp Makes Long-Awaited U.S. Return at Chicago’s Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom (RECAP)

Over the past few weeks, you have probably noticed an influx of Brit-pop content in your newsfeed. Yes, Oasis is making their grand and exaggerated return to the stage, but they’re not the only British icons with their eyes set on furthering their legacy into a new era. Last night (September 8), the long-awaited return of Pulp, one of the most iconic bands to come out of Britain’s rock renaissance they experienced in the 90’s. The band took the stage in Chicago at the Byline Bank Aragon Ballroom, marking their first show in the States in over a decade. This trek across North America comes with a select few dates, but if the future dates have setlists like the one Pulp put together for their first reunion show in the U.S., fans are in for a treat.

Pulp pieced together a setlist that included smash hits and a few deep cuts for day-one fans. They kicked things off with “I Spy” from their acclaimed 1995 classic Different Class, an album that got much attention during their stop in Chicago. Eight of the 19 songs the band performed came from Different Class, including “Disco 2000,” “Monday Morning,” and their defining hit record “Common People.” Pulp didn’t settle for just one album; the band popped around their discography throughout the performance. Most notably, the band performed “Spike Island,” an unheard and unreleased song from the band that made an appearance on the setlist during their second encore. That same encore also included “Razzmatazz” and “Glory Days.”

\With their first U.S. show of the “This Is What We Do For An Ecore” tour in the books, Pulp heads right back out on the road. The band heads North to Toronto for a two-day stay starting Tuesday, September 10. The remaining dates will see Pulp perform in Brooklyn, San Fransico, and Hollywood. You can check out the full setlist, get tickets for upcoming tour dates, and see footage from last night’s show below.
