LISTEN: Strange Familia’s “Wild Juice in the Honey Jar” Brings Infectious Melodies To Neon Funk

Strange Familia is a four-piece alt/pop band from Salt Lake City, Utah. Releasing their first album in 2017, the band received critical acclaim from publications like American Songwriter and Pop Matter, naming it one of its top 50 Albums of the Year So Far. The album’s single “Odes” charted on Billboard and Spotify’s Top Viral 50 songs in the United States. Six months after the release of their freshman album, the band went on a multi-year hiatus after the death of the band founder’s daughter. Strange Familia will mark its comeback with its upcoming LP Yesterday, releasing in January 2025. Ramping up for the album release, the band is releasing “Wild Juice in the Honey Jar.”

The band’s long-awaited return is marked by neon funk and breezy tones as their new single has the band picking up right where they left off. “Wild Juice in the Honey Jar” is an easy-going, pop-leaning outing with sleek melodies and a warping arrangement that transitions from nimble minimalism to explosive danceability. Strang Familia holds nothing back for a band that hung it up for a few years. The subtle grooves of their latest single are bright and infectious and embody the nuances of the band’s approach. With every listen, another subtle twist is unearthed. Whether it’s the whirling synths that add splashes of color or the auto-tune-drenched spurts of vocals, “Wild Juice in the Honey Jar” is the sonic equivalent of walking through a carnival. With a return LP on the way, Strange Familia crafts a relaxed single that showcases their carefree yet honed sonic world.

“‘Wild Juice in the Honey Jar’ was inspired by escapism but has since taken on new meaning in the form of letting go,” explains the band.
