Air Celebrates 25 Years Of “Moon Safari” At Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Theater (RECAP)

After spending most of the year hitting festivals around Europe to celebrate the 25th anniversary of their seminal debut album, French duo Air is bringing the party to North America. Last night (September 25), the electro-pop pair took over the Queen Elizabeth Theater in Vancouver, British Columbia, performing the entirety of their 1998 Moon Safari LP, which received a deluxe 25th Anniversary edition in 2024 despite turning 26 this year. The duo, whose last official release dates back to 2012, even ventured outside Moon Safari, piecing together an expansive look at their colorful career.

Air performed 18 songs, the first ten being the entirety of Moon Safari. The duo then dove into “Radian” from their 2001 LP 10,000 Hz Legend, an album that got a decent amount of love on the duo’s first North American date of this trek. Air also performed “Don’t Be Light” and “Electronic Performers” from the album. Four songs came from the band’s 2004 hit LP Talkie Walkie. They pulled out hits such as “Cherry Blossom Girl” and “Alone In Kyoto” while also showing love to underrated records like “Run” and “Venus.” Air even touched on the soundtrack they did for the film The Virgin Suicides with a performance of “High School Lover.”

With night one in the books, Air heads to the States for a long stretch of shows. Their next stop is Seattle on Friday, September 27, before spending two nights at Los Angeles’ Orpheum Theater. The duo will also make stops in Denver and Chicago before returning to Canada for stops in Toronto and Laval. You can check out Air’s full schedule and the setlist from last night’s show below.
