SONG PREMIERE: Why Bother Bring Rebellious Stance To Modern Punk Via “(I’m Gonna) Pin it on You”

To say Why Bother, the synth-drenched punk trailblazers, are a prolific outfit would be an understatement. Since their proper debut, 2021’s A Year of Mutations, it appears the band has not left the studio. 2022 saw them release another three LPs, while 2023 gave us another two full-lengths, including their breakout hit Calling All Goons. Earlier this year, Why Bother? gave us Serenading Unwanted Ballads, a collection of tracks with some being previously released on older EPs. The band’s refreshing approach to punk fusion has transformed into an unstoppable force with a restless creativity, and that fire under the band’s ass that keeps the music coming is only getting hotter. Today (October 1), Glide is proud to premiere “(I’m Gonna) Pin it on You,” Why Bother’s new single, and first look at their upcoming LP, Hey, At Least You’re Not Me, set to be released via Feel It Records on October 18.

Why Bother’s new LP was initially slated for a 2025 release, but waiting to release music is not in the band’s nature. Hey, At Least You’re Not Me already feels like the band sticking to their unsaid promise of never creating the same album twice, and “(I’m Gonna) Pin it on You,” with its dense distortion and thudding drums, is our first hint of their new direction. While the lead single harkens back to the band’s fascination with stretching punk’s limitations, the songwriting here is what feels new. There is an air of vulnerability in the lyrics as the band openly explores human traits most would steer away from. Why Bother, on the other hand, dives deep into deception in a dispute and delivers a head-spinning performance lined with their signature punk-leaning sonic realm.

“True prophets are non-profit. Ritualize fasting from ultra-processed edible products and hate,” explains the band when asked about “(I’m Gonna) Pin It on You.” “Face and set yourself free from what attacks your ability to think and feel for yourself.” The rebellious spirit of this quote rings true throughout the single. The band explores the act of being selfish in order to protect yourself from generalized opinions and conformity. Thankfully, Why Bother’s freeing approach to modern punk is here to soundtrack your escape from modern trappings, you can listen to the premiere of “(I’m Gonna) Pin It On You” below and hear Hey, At Least You’re Not Me in full on October 18.
