While October may be synonymous with Halloween for most folks, the beginning of the month doesn’t always feel like Halloween, per se. Indeed, it’s still relatively warm most places, fall foliage hasn’t kicked-in yet, and although nights are technically longer than days now, you don’t really notice it this early in the month. So, as a proverbial bridge from summer to the season of the witch, we offer up this markedly bright performance from the legendary Black Sabbath, performing in front of a massive crowd at the Ontario Motor Speedway in California in 1974 from half a century ago.
It’s somewhat amusing to see the band deliver a pulverizing performance of “Children of the Grave” on such a beautiful day, with that retro rainbow as the backdrop, as a downright giddy Ozzy Osburne leads the way. It’s like the dichotomy of trying to get into the Halloween spirit on the 1st day of October. Feels like we’re not quite “there” yet, but whatever the case, any excuse to showcase some classic Sabbath is a good one in our book, regardless of the season. Enjoy:
