Something about distinctive vocals sets the tone for an artist to be forever recognized audibly. Whether it’s a Rod Stewart rasp or a Neil Young ache, we know who these voices are. Grayson Converse of Spooky Mansion has that type of unique delivery that is part country, part punk, and part folk that immediately engages with its raw tone.

Spooky Mansion will release  their new album What About You? on October 31, and Glide is premiering the song and video for the catchy twang of “Long Time Ago.” This track will hit home with listeners of Dr. Dog, My Morning Jacket and MJ Lenderman with its rootsy vibe that maintains an eclectic old school indie rock charm. Shot live, the video shows the band in ideal desert surroundings, playing to their own rebellious indie muse, and the results are ragged and glorious in all the right spots.

‘Long Time Ago’ is about my life in San Francisco right after graduating high school and living on my own for the first time. The city was this massive sprawling mystery with ducks hanging in windows, steam coming up from street grates, narrow winding roads leading into deep thickets of Eucalyptus, and so many passing faces with lives I was curious about. I would just ride the bus and take it all in,” recalls Converse about the track.
