Rounding out our Thanksgiving-themed selections this week, we’re serving up this classic Arlo Guthrie performance of “Alice’s Restaurant Massacree” (aka “Alice’s Restaurant”) from 1970. While you could certainly make the argument that this notoriously long-winded and peculiarly humorous talking-blues story is essential to listening to every Thanksgiving, it carries a little extra added weight this year given the recent passing of Alice Brock last week, who inspired the song. It’s one of those timeless tunes that can’t help but put a smile on your face, albeit this year it might be a bit more reflective in nature. Whatever the case, play it for you and yours this Thanksgiving in honor of Alice’s memory. “You can get anything you want at Alice’s restaurant…” R.I.P.
