In honor of Iggy Pop’s 78th birthday today, this week we’ll be spotlighting some choice performances from his legendary career. And if there’s one thing Iggy has always been known for (besides being the Godfather of Punk and all), it’s been his notoriously unhinged live performances over the years. Simply put, nobody has consistently brought more wild manic energy to the stage than Mr. Osterberg, as this fittingly batshit performance of “Sixteen” live from 1977 aptly demonstrates. Backed by the Sales Brothers, this performance feels particularly raw and nasty, but of course it’s Iggy’s blood-stained bare-chested aggressive intensity that really helps put it over the top. And the icing on the (manic) cake? That backwards bow at the end of the song. Respect!
