Update: Will Rothbury 2011 Happen?

Back in October, HT’s Ryan Dembinsky chatted with Bill Nershi and the SCI frontman let it slip that the band was looking into the possibility of throwing its own festival at Rothbury…

“We’re also planning on doing something next summer at the Rothbury site. That will be a weekend festival with a lot of String Cheese sets. It’ll be different from Rothbury in that it will be more like our thing at Horning’s, where String Cheese plays every night, and it will include bands in our String Cheese family with art installations and that kind of thing.”

Ever since that day we haven’t heard word one about the status of Rothbury 2011…until today. The Muskegon Chronicle reports that Rothbury festival organizers “are holding negotiations to bring a music festival back to Double JJ resort.” Here’s more from that article…

Grant Township Clerk William Wagner said Madison House Presents president and CEO Jeremy Stein met with officials earlier this week to talk about plans for a festival, but no date has been set. Madison House Presents is the company that put on the Rothbury festival in 2008 and 2009.

Rothbury Police Chief Tom Hasper said the village of Rothbury has an agreement to supply a liquor license for a festival at Double JJ, because Grant Township is “dry.” He said nothing has been finalized yet.

“The liquor licenses are all ready to go; They’re just waiting for the date,” he said.

The article doesn’t mention whether the fest would be based around multiple headliners like Rothbury 2008 and 2009 or would be a String Cheese Incident-fronted affair as discussed by Nershi in his talk with HT. It’s just nice to see the wheels are in motion. As soon as we hear anything further about the status of Rothbury 2011, we’ll let you know. [MLive.com via CoS]

  1. so, unofficially, it’s looking like 7/8,9,10/11

hmmm….those dates seem pretty marketable and also don’t compete with any other “potential” phestivals simmering in the summer crockpot.

Rothbury/Double J really was too pretty to let fall to the wayside. Great to hear resuerrection news from the hula-hoopers!

  2. I would like to predict Pearl Jam’s proposed festy will take place at Rothbury (as it’s own separate festy, just on the grounds of Double J).

  3. I am crossing my fingers for more Rothbury. I’m nervous that I haven’t seen anything on the website. I’d like to be perusing a line-up & getting funds squared away for tickets.

  4. I like SCI but dont hink i could handle three nights of them. It would be sweet to have further , panic and dave and tim play. thats a good mix

  5. Further, Panic, and Dave over SCI??? AKA played out, old, and boring. If Dave is at Rothbury or DoubleJJ, I will not be there. Mark my words.

  6. as luck would have it i am moving to muskegon just south of rothbury. so frikin excited! i had a 7 hour drive in 09. As i understand it, SCI got back together for rothbury 09. I would see them but id like biscuits and umphrey’s as headliners. Mostly umphrey’s. i saw furthur at allgood 2010 and, well dark star was awesome lol.

  7. Can’t be 7/8-11, Thats the weekend of Camp Bisco. Much more likely it would be July 4th weekend. Only thing going on then in the Phish festy at Watkins Glen and thats just Phish. Would be awesome if they get three headliners the quality of 08 or 09. I was at both and can honestly hate to see this become 3 nights of cheese

  8. I’d like to see at least something happen at the roth site this year..just not on the fourth weekend! Phish at watkins glen and im planning on that when it’s finally confirmed sooo…

  9. I would love nothing more than to see Cheese, furthur and panic at Rothbury on the 4th of July Weekend. That would make my 2011.

  10. jt if you dont like jam bands then why the f@@k do you have anything to do with rothbury. festivals revolve around jam
