Track President Teases Phish Announcement

You might remember Michael Printup as the Watkins Glen International president who denied that a Phish Festival was confirmed to take place at the track over the Fourth of July Weekend a few months back. Apparently, Printup is getting ready to come clean as he’s taken to his personal twitter feed to tease a forthcoming announcement…

Clearly Printup aimed his comments towards the Phish fanbase, especially when dropping the “phishing” reference in his “I think I am going phishing this weekend” tweet before mentioning how excited he was for an announcement coming on Monday. Will the details of Phish’s ninth festival finally come down on Monday? Keep your eyes on Phish.com.

UPDATE: [10:26PM] A few Watkins Glen area news organizations picked up on Printup’s tweets this evening. Local NBC affiliate WETM asked a track rep about the tweets and were told that he couldn’t comment “until a contract is signed.”

The Ithaca Journal spoke with Printup about his tweets and the WGI president continued to play coy. “Yeah, I’m taking my son phishing this weekend. I can’t help it if I can’t spell,” Printup said.  Printup insisted to the paper a deal wasn’t done yet. “We’re talking to a promoter trying to get a deal done. We’ll be talking over the next two or three days and then hopefully we can get a deal and have something to day,” Printup added. County sheriff Bill Yessmann – yup, that’s really his name, hope he doesn’t turn into a no man when we come to town – also gave a measured statement to the Ithaca Journal by saying, “something is probably going to happen, I can’t tell you what. I think there might be something coming out very soon on it.”

UPDATE2 [3/20 – 11:09PM]: Printup’s latest tweet alludes to a delay…
