F4tF: Montreal, Part 4 – Au Pied de Cochon

With the disclaimers out of the way here is what we had that evening:

The one dish I was really wanting to try was Foie Gras Poutine and it did not disappoint.  Here is a description of that dish I found somewhere: The gravy is a duck fat gravy and simmered over three days. The fries are also cooked in duck fat and there is a generous slab of foie gras on top as well as cheese curds.

The next dish is called Foie Gras Cromesquis on the Au Pied de Cochon menu. We called them Foie Grass shooters. It is basically deep-fried, lightly-breaded Foie Gras which you place in your mouth (about the size of a small marshmallow), close your mouth and press the Foie Gras shooter against the roof of your mouth shooting the liquid Foie Grass goodness in your mouth with a flavor sensation you have to experience to understand. According to my co-diners that night my eyes were rolling in the back of my head for this one and and I looked like I had found nirvana.

The next dish was codfish fritters.  Hey, life can’t be all meat, can it?

Another appetizer we all shared was fried pork rinds…

Tarragon Bison Tongue

Don’t recall what this lobster dish was other than it was damn good

Then came the main courses.  I had this one, it was a marrow bone, quail and some other meats, topped with pastry dough and baked.

The next one was again a  few different meats topped with thinly sliced potatoes and baked

Here are the other two main courses from the table.  We were well into the wine and conversation by this point so suffice to say, I was lucky to even remember to take the pictures

We ordered a couple of the desserts as well.

All I have to say to end this story is that Au Pied de Cochon should be a MUST VISIT if you are planning to go to Montreal.
