Two years after a fire tore through Athens’ Georgia Theatre on the day Perpetual Groove was set to perform at the famed venue, the HT faves threw down two sets on Friday night that very well may have been worth the wait. As expected, past and future PGroove keyboardist Matt McDonald was on hand and joined the band for fan-favorite Bobblehead Funk at the end of set one and a Speed Queen sandwich in set two that contained a debut cover of Consolers of the Lonely by The Raconteurs and a brief run through Faith No More’s Epic. McDonald returned later in the closing stanza for Sweet Oblivious Antidote, TTFPJ and showed off his skills on the axe for the band’s first-ever take on Rage Against The Machine’s Sleep Now In The Fire.

A three-song encore started with the third cover debut of the evening – Epilogue by Receiving Ends of Siren, with Karolyn Troupe of Venus Is Sinking helping out on vocals. PGroove ended the night by dedicating Naive Melody to longtime fan (and one-time HT contributor) Chris Cartelli. Here’s a look at the setlist for the sold-out performance…
