Inaugural Catalpa Festival: Black Keys, Snoop Dogg, Umphrey’s

The New York City summer festival scene became more crowded today with the announcement that the inaugural Catalpa Festival will take place at Randall’s Island on July 28 and 29. Each day, from 1PM to 11PM, a diverse mix of 50 bands will perform on the scenic island, which festival promoters Frisky say will be filled with “thought provoking art installations, bespoke event structures and enough unique elements to transform people out of the city and into a world more fantastic.” There will also be a silent disco, a “church of sham marriages” and a curate homage to all things gastronomic in NYC.

This morning Frisky revealed the first batch of bands expected to play Catalpa and they include HT faves The Black Keys, Snoop Dogg (performing his Doggystyle LP in its entirety), Umphrey’s McGee and TV on the Radio. In addition, Felix da Housecat, araabMUZIK, The Big Pink, City and Colour, and Fort Atlantic have been confirmed for the inaugural event. Early-bird tickets are on sale now for $99.
