I usually feature “new” videos during my turns through the daily video post rotation, but last night I came across a clip that blew my mind when I first saw it 15 years ago and made my jaw drop all over again all these years later. I’m talking about Edgar Winter Group’s version of Frankenstein from the legendary British program Old Grey Whistle Test. Winter revolutionized the use of synthesizers by strapping one around his neck and rocking it out in live performances. By the time this nine-minute video is over, Edgar takes a turn on synth, sax and drums, all with aplomb. If you haven’t seen this, you’ll never look at Frankenstein the same…
Edgar Winter Group – Frankenstein (Old Grey Whistle Test)
Can you believe our country was cool enough to make this epic instrumental a #1 song? That’s right, Frankenstein topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart for one week in 1973.
