Third Edition of Phish Bible Due Next Spring

There’s big news from The Mockingbird Foundation today as the Phish fan-run organization has announced that a new edition of The Phish Companion book (TPC3), the definitive guide to the band and its music, will be available in the Spring of 2013. This third edition of TPC will cover all shows through the end of this year and will benefit for the thousands of man-hours Phish.net volunteers have put into researching and documenting Phish history since the release of TPC2 in 2004.

This new hard-cover tome will feature a completely new design and aims to be more portable, as the last edition weighed in at a whopping 920 pages and 4.2 pounds. The Mockingbird Foundation has teamed up with Backbeat Books, an imprint of Hal Leonard Corporation, to put out TPC3, which will be available for pre-order in the fall. Proceeds from the book will “fund music education for children through a highly competitive, two-tiered application process that has so far provided more than 220 grants in 43 states totaling over $700,000,” according to a press release.

As a relatively new member of the Phish.net team, I’ve had a front row seat to all of the efforts the team’s volunteers put into the community-driven history project. I have no doubt this book will be the ultimate resource for fans and that even the most hard-core of Phish followers will learn something from it. Everyone who is involved with Phish.net and The Mockingbird Foundation volunteers their time so that as much money as possible can go towards music education for children. Be sure to keep your eyes on Phish.net and The Mockingbird Foundation’s website for updates about TPC3.

  1. Not a publishing stalwart, but are there plans to offer this digitally? Not sure how difficult that process is, but perhaps the good people at Backbeat might…
