Phil Lesh and Family Ramble at Levon Helm Studios: Setlist, Photos and Videos

The deep connection between Levon Helm Studios and Grateful Dead/Furthur bassist Phil Lesh continued last night at the Woodstock, New York music venue/studio/home where Phil made his third appearance at a Midnight Ramble. Lesh has based his San Rafael, Calif. venue on what Levon has established with Midnight Rambles going so far as to bill a series of concerts at Terrapin Crossroads as “West Coast Rambles.” At yesterday’s concert, Lesh kicked off the action with a Phil and Friends set before joining the Levon Helm Band for the second half of their set.

Lesh brought his sons Brian and Grahame to the Ramble and they performed with him during both the Phil and Friends set as well as the portion of the Levon Helm Band set that the bassist played on. For the Phil and Friends set, Lesh pulled from the Grateful Dead repertoire as well as traditional Irish folk song Whiskey In The Jar, The Band’s Up On Cripple Creek,  Neil Young’s Old Man, The Head and the Heart’s River and Roads and Johnny Cash’s Folsom Prison Blues and Big River. After the Levon Helm Band opened their set with ten tunes of their own, Lesh and his sons helped put a stamp on the evening for a sequence of Dead and The Band classics.
