John Fahey may not be one of the most widely known guitarists, but he certainly can be considered one of the best – with Rolling Stone ranking him at #35 on their list of the 100 Greatest Guitarists Of All Time. Playing an acoustic steel string guitar, Fahey, who passed away in 2001, was known as the innovator of a style called American Primitive – which fused open tuning, finger picking with traditional folk and blues sounds. The guitarist, who’s influenced the likes of Leo Kottke, M. Ward and Jim O’Rourke, is the subject of a new documentary called In Search Of Blind Joe Death The Saga Of John Fahey. The doc, which has been making the film festival rounds, features interviews with Pete Townshend, Chris Funk (The Decemberists), and Joey Burns (Calexico). Let’s check out the trailer…
