Two Special Edition David Bowie Releases Due

On June 5, Virgin/EMI Music Catalog Marketing will release The Best Of David Bowie 1980-1987: Sight & Sound. Among the 36-track CD/DVD collection’s 19 audio gems are many of Bowie’s best 1980s hits, including “Let’s Dance,” “Modern Love,” “China Girl” and “Blue Jean.” Its 15 video clips include Bowie’s top ‘80s music videos and, making their DVD release debut, videos for “The Drowned Girl” and “When The Wind Blows.”

Virgin/EMI Music Catalog Marketing will also release David Bowie’s classic 1974 album Young Americans in an expanded Special Edition CD/DVD package on June 5. Young Americans, representing the zenith of Bowie’s influential soul period, contributed in no small measure to breaking white soul music into the mainstream. The album was, in theory, about "emotional drive," but came to represent much more than that, both upon its release and over time. Young Americans is Bowie’s vision of and reply to a wide swath of above-board and underground musical and socio-political influences, including soul music, politics, sex, drugs, dancing, and the cultural scenes of downtown New York and uptown Philadelphia. In addition to the album’s eight original tracks, including its #1 single “Fame” and rousing title track, the new edition’s CD features three bonus tracks and the DVD includes new audio mixes of the CD’s tracks by legendary producer Tony Visconti, as well as “Dick Cavett Show” performance and interview clips from 1974.
