Echo and The Bunnymen: The Very Best of Echo and The Bunnymen: More Songs to Learn

[rating=9.00]

Calling all Bunny Fans: if you are a longtime follower of Echo and the Bunnymen, despite recent disappointing live performances (e.g. HFStival 2005 in Baltimore where Ian lost his voice, and after two attempts to start “Lips Like Sugar,” they never actually performed), then you must add this latest set to your collection.  Never heard of Echo?  Don’t fret – this ‘best of’ will make you their latest convert.  Or not.  Maybe you don’t like catchy melodies, frenzied rhythm guitars, or a haunting voice singing poetic verses.

The two-disc release has 20 varied songs, offering everything from “The Cutter,” “The Killing Moon,” “Seven Seas” and “Rescue,” to “A Promise,” “Lips Like Sugar,” “Bring on the Dancing Horses,” and the newer “Stormy Weather.”  Through them all, what comes through clearly is the classic songwriting and composition work of Ian McCulloch and guitarist Will Sergeant.  For classic rock fans, there’s even a cover of The Doors’ “People are Strange,” revealing or confirming the UK band’s early influence.

As if the audio wasn’t enough, the accompanying DVD is an anthology of essential Bunnymen music videos spanning their entire career.
