On Soccer Mommy’s latest album, Sometimes, Forever, the songwriter is able to strike a rare balance between melancholy and excitement. This juxtaposition is more prevalent than ever on the stand-out track “Shotgun”, the funky bass line draws you in while Soccer Mommy’s stark yet potent lyrics paint a vivid portrait of bottled anger. She took “Shotgun” to the late-night circuit last night (August 23) with a performance of the hit on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Soccer Mommy began to garner attention for herself around 2015 by self-releasing a handful of EPs before landing her deal at Fat Possum Records to release her debut album, 2018’s Clean. Since then her albums have slowly been crawling up multiple publication’s “Best of The Year ” lists and gaining acclaim across the board. Her third LP released in June of this year is no different, Sometimes, Forever is filled with ups-and-downs across the 11-song tracklist. Track 4 on this album is the great “Shotgun” and its whirling guitars and wavy melody made for a great live performance.

That groovy bassline translated well to the late-night stage. A full band blacked Soccer Mommy on the dark stage filled with deep purples and towers of balloons. The minimalist stage design allowed her songwriting to really drive the performance, the poetic lyrics are not to be outshined by the hard-rock-influenced instrumental.
