Once again the folks at Terrapin Presents have upped the ante on keeping the spirit of the Grateful Dead alive by providing genre bending music that keeps the adventure of improvisation and collaboration alive.
The artists that formed The Stockholm Syndrome and released the CD Holy Happy Hour, Jerry Joseph and Dave Schools, finished their four-city Almost Acoustic mini-tour with a sold-out performance at Smith’s Olde Bar in Atlanta.

The countdown started for me when the “Welcome Back Carter” theme came waltzing out of the PA system. It was noticeably louder than the stream of music lost in the pre-show chatter and buzz inside the auditorium, and I knew the show was about to begin. That, for me, was a more palpable countdown than another tick of the clock turning over another year like an invisible odometer. moe. entered the stage with cartoonish wigs in seventies big fro style and assembled for what I found out upon arriving, was to be an opening acoustic set. Well that solidified it, I thought, I had chosen wisely when I decided to make this show my New Year’s Eve destination.
Warren Haynes is Santa Claus, at least as far as I am concerned. Not only does he throw the best Christmas Party I have ever attended, but the eight hour-plus music event is for a great cause, Habitat for Humanity.
The band
The Al DiMeola Project threw caution to the wind, and despite the threat of Wilma looming in the Gulf of Mexico; (many touring acts canceled appearances due to the impending hurricane) the band tore the roof of the Carefree Theater before the storm got its chance.
Rarely, at least in my observation, does an artist make the successful transition from rock band to solo acoustic performer. Jerry Joseph is one of those rare artists.
Keegan Ales celebrated their second year of brewing fine ale by hosting a concert with two exceptional bands, in of all places, right in the brewery. The stage was set amongst the kegs, sacks of hops and barley, and other things, but the sound was surprisingly good considering the venue was essentially warehouse space with brewing equipment.
