A big batch of the Boognish invaded Brooklyn early Friday night as the brothers Ween “Dr. Rock”ed the hell out of McCarren Pool. The gargantuan 33-song, 4-hour set may have been the highlight of the last concert series in McCarren Pool, which has proved one of the most unique and satisfying NYC summer venues in recent years.
Rochester's Highland Bowl is a bucolic band shell nestled right outside the city. It looked like the stage from Yellow Submarine and provided some of the best acoustics around.
Ingrid Michaelson does not appear to be the least bit fragile. She showed off her sense of humor to the crowd, joking that she wanted to “make out with them” and “feel them up.” And later in the night, before treating everyone to her Old Navy commercial hit, “The Way I Am,” she busted out a couple raps – “Ice Ice Baby” and the theme to “Fresh Prince of Bel Air.” Yeah, I’d say she’s quite a talent.

Over the last couple years, Mofro have morphed from a quirky neo-blues band into a bonafide soul review. With the horns and churchy organ, it would be easy to predict Grey and company would get a hearty response from an audience anxious for a good time on a Friday night. Following the release of their newest album Amen Corner, Railroad Earth took their west coast tour through Portland’s Crystal Ballroom on June 20th to ring in the summer solstice in style. In teaming up with Portland’s own prankster production team of Peak Experience, RRE decided to bring more than just their own special sound to the mix; they brought a horn section, a rocking guest guitarist in the form of Scott Law, a top notch opening act of Greensky Bluegrass, and more eye candy and costumes than most shows this side of Ringling Brothers.
Delta Spirit's headlining set might have been a bit too much time for these lads to fill as the high points were exhilarating, but a tighter, trimmer set would eliminate the all-too-present downtime.

Sure Steven Tyler, Bono, Roger Daltrey, Freddie Mercury, David Bowie and Mick Jagger are up there too, but its not even worth arguing. On even Simon Cowell’s list, Robert Plant is top five and his voice can do things that make 55 year old grown men in attendance jump the stage (which happened this evening in Phoenix) and 30 year old woman pass roses to the voice of rock and roll’s most iconic songs.
OTHBURY, the latest entry in the burgeoning U.S. concert festival scene got underway (July 3) in western Michigan. The rest of the weekend will see performances by the likes of the Dave Matthews Band, Widespread Panic, John Mayer, Modest Mouste, 311, Thievery Corporation, Primus Trey Anastasio, Snoop Dogg, Phil Lesh and Friends, Gov't Mule and other jam friendly artists– more than 70 acts playing in six performance areas.
