Bonnaroo 2012 Day 1 6/7/12

After a smashing 10th anniversary, Bonnaroo has officially become part of the fabric of Tennessee. Press members are being offered tours of Nashville, as the powers that be endeavor to tie the state’s old musical history in with the new; most locals have embraced the event, or at least the residual dollars; and the proprietors are planting trees, building structures, and basically settling in for the duration of whatever time we have left. And they’re gonna throw a party every year, just in case that time isn’t long.

Slash: Hard Rock Live, Biloxi, MS, 05/10/12

Following a few more solo dates and a couple big festivals, Slash will take his band to Europe and Canada, this time hitting our North American neighbor more thoroughly than last time, and also a few more exotic countries are on the agenda. “Slash has never played India or Beirut so it’s pretty exciting,” said Kerns about the band’s upcoming plans. In the fall, they plan on making another run through the states and from what some fans have told me, they are letting the Hard Rock in Biloxi know that they want Slash back again ASAP.

Foo Fighters: New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, New Orleans, LA, 05/06/12

With “The Pretender” coming early in the set all the way up through the closing “Dear Rosemary/Breakdown/Everlong”, it was a Foo Fighters mash up at breakneck speed. “We like to play as long as we can, “Grohl spouted before kicking off “Learn To Fly”. “So I hope you don’t mind if we just play until we feel like we’re going to barf … If you want to hear a couple hours of music, we’ll try to go there for you.” And you knew that if they could get away with it, they wouldn’t stop till dawn.

Tonight’s show proves once again that The Brian Jonestown Massacre has reached a new level in their career. Their set is well rehearsed, their sound is flawless, and they have sold out the venue. There is very little standing room inside the Crescent Ballroom and fans have to squeeze through one another to reach the bar area or the bathrooms. Everyone is genuinely excited to watch the spectacle on stage. They seem delighted to hear songs from the new album AUFHEBEN like " Want To Hold Your Other Hand' and 'Clouds Are Lies."

Portland Cello Project/Emily Wells: Crescent Ballroom, Phoenix, AZ 5/13/12

It was a calm yet warm Mother's Day crowd in Phoenix's Crescent Ballroom for Sunday's show, and for those who didn't forget completely, Portland Cello Project and Emily Wells double-headlined a unique and classy affair to take a venturesome mother.  Someone in the audience snickers that there will be no mosh pit at this show, and although Crescent doesn't normally host shows that compel one to mosh, but they also don't normally set out candlelit tables on the ballroom floor either.

Waylon Speed: Higher Ground, South Burlington, VT 4/28/12

If you’re looking for a benchmark of grassroots support for a rock and roll band, you needed go no further than Waylon Speed’s CD release party at Higher Ground’s Showcase Lounge on April 28th. Guitarist Kelly Ravin and bassist Noah Crowther were probably no more or less earnest than any other local band would be in their expressions of gratitude to a comfortably full house on a return home from tour, but this Saturday night audience responded intelligently to a single set that was as unpredictable as this band is eclectic.

Feist: Orpheum Theatre, Phoenix AZ 4/22/12

The Orpheum Theatre felt the like the scene from an ancient ritual as everyone on stage stomped their feet as Feist hung her guitar over her shoulders and eases into the first track of the night.
