He is known in some circles as the “Mayor of Telluride” due to the fact that he has performed at 26 of the 27 Telluride Bluegrass Festivals. Some prefer to call him, simply, King Sammy. But the technical skills and instrumental variety the guys bring to their music cannot compensate for the antiseptic quality of the tunes, nor for the distance the band maintains between itself and its subjects.
