British guitar rock band, The Music, is on work at their second album, as they head to back to the U.K. with a brief break in their touring schedule. Their sound is as a cross between Led Zeppelin, Janes Addiction and Oasis, although it also reflects in some of 80 metal
A quartet of classic Santana albums will be reissued Aug. 12 via Columbia/Legacy. All four titles — “Caravanserai,” “Moonflower,” “Love Devotion Surrender” (with Mahavishnu John McLaughlin), and “Welcome” — date back to the 1970s, and have been remixed and remastered for re-release. They feature newly written liner notes by Hal Miller; all but 1972’s “Caravanserai” feature bonus tracks.
“Caravanserai” marked the beginning of the Carlos Santana-led band’s jazz fusion foray. “Love Devotion Surrender”
The former features Carlos Santana and fellow guitarist McLaughlin, both at the time followers of spiritual guru Sri Chinmoy, joined by members of Santana and the Mahavishnu Orchestra. The resulting five-track album was a near-religious experience that kicked off with an interpretation of John Coltrane’s “A Love Supreme.” An alternate take of that cut, as well as an alternate take on Coltrane’s “Naima,” have been added to the reissue.
The title cut of “Welcome” is also a Coltrane original. The previously unreleased song “Mantra” bolsters the re-release of the album.
Finally, 1977’s double-disc “Moonflower” was a mix of live and studio material that grows here with the inclusion of single versions of three of the album’s songs: “Black Magic Woman,” “I’ll Be Waiting,” and the Zombies’ “She’s Not There.”

Former Police drummer Stewart Copeland has amicably settled his lawsuit against two surviving members of the Doors, now touring under the moniker the Doors of the 21st Century.Copeland had sued the group for breach of contract, claiming founding members Ray Manzarek and Robby Krieger reneged on a promise to use him during the tour and on an upcoming studio album.
This incarnation of the Doors has been peppered with lawsuits since last year. Original drummer John Densmore, who is not a part of the reunion, sued Manzarek and Krieger for breach of contract, claiming that after lead singer Jim Morrison died in 1971, the three remaining members agreed they would split any future profits from the Doors’ music equally. He alleged the members also agreed the band’s name would not be used unless all three of them were involved.

Last month, a judge denied Densmore’s request for a temporary restraining order preventing Manzarek and Krieger from touring. The group has 13 dates on tap for a summer tour, beginning June 20 in Detroit and including a previously announced Aug. 30 appearance at the Coors Mountain Jam outside Denver.

The San Francisco based five-piece Vue, has been rolling along for four years and are about to undergo a big switch. The switch that so many indie bands before them have taken: jumping from an indie to a major label. Though guitarist Jonah Buffa won’t hesitate to tell you that his band’s success has been totally impulsive, when he exclaims, “who let us in the backdoor and left the door unlocked?”
Colorado has always been a hotbed for bluegrass, and though they may not have been born and raised in the mountains, the four boys of the Yonder Mountain String Band are melding jam-tinged exploration with classic style pickin’. With their own festival, a full summer tour, and a newly released album comprised of Benny Galloway tunes, YMSB is a young force with Old Hands.
Five years ago, Mike Rivard set out to create an ongoing experiment. What if his bassline could be the constant focal point, a musical lighthouse, where a rotating cast of allstars including John Medeski, DJ Logic, and the late Mark Sandman, could come together, listen, and be free to just go off to wherever they wanted to lead the music. The result: the creation of a perfect balance between chaos and order.
Former Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus and his band the Jicks will open the first leg of Radiohead’s upcoming North American tour. The initial portion of the trek will run Aug. 12-Sept. 5, although a full announcement is not expected for another two weeks. It is not known who will support Radiohead on the tour’s second leg, running from late September through mid-October.

Phish will sing the national anthem at Game Four of the NBA Finals between the New Jersey Nets and the San Antonio Spurs. The game takes place at the Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, NJ on Wednesday, June 11. The game airs at 8:00 pm on ABC.

Former Talking Heads frontman David Byrne, Sonic Youth’s Kim Gordon and Thurston Moore, Citizen Cope, and Pamela Laws (Seven Day Diary) will perform at a June 9 literacy fundraiser in New York. The Bowery Ballroom show will benefit the Brooklyn-based Carter G. Woodson Cultural Literacy Program, which helps at risk students in the New York borough’s Brownsville and Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhoods.
