Skinny Puppy: The Greater Wrong of the Right

For nearly twenty years, Skinny Puppy has been the Blue Man Group from hell. Formed in the mid-80s by three Vancouver art students, this elite techno band helped pave the way for the entire industrial sound, with heavy grooves and lyrics that condemn animal experimentation, political corruption and basically anything else that

Kottke / Gordon Fall Tour Announced

Acoustic guitar virtuoso Leo Kottke and erstwhile Phish bassist Mike Gordon have confirmed a 25-date fall tour of large clubs and theatres beginning September 15th at the Liberty Hall in Lawrence, KS, in support of their new album, Sixty Six Steps, which will be released August 23rd on RCA VICTOR.

Like Clone, the duo’s first album, Sixty Six Steps builds on the relationship of two musicians whose backgrounds and styles differ significantly, but together complement each other’s dynamic, and at times, offbeat songwriting.

Seasoned with the buoyant rhythms and freewheeling spirit of the tropics, Sixty Six Steps is not literally a calypso album but one that uses the calypso feel as a touchstone. Rehearsed in Costa Rica, Kottke and Gordon recorded the album at Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas, with Clone producer David Z (Prince, Johnny Lang) and were joined by Neil Symonette (Al Green), the renowned house drummer at Compass Point.

Jerry Garcia Releases From Rhino

Rhino Entertainment is paying homage to Jerry Garcia throughout the month of August. Rhino Home Video will release the Jerry Garcia Band’s first ever DVD, Live at Shoreline, August 9th to mark the 10-year anniversary of Garcia’s passing in 1995. Later that month, on August 23, Rhino Records unveils Legion of Mary’s first official CD, The Jerry Garcia Collection, Vol. 1: Legion of Mary.

Live at Shoreline DVD

Live at Shoreline was recorded September 1, 1990 at Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, California and remains one of the very few Garcia Band concerts to be filmed. A Grateful Dead show was originally scheduled for the date, but the band could not play due to the tragic death of the Dead’s brilliant keyboardist Brent Mydland a few weeks earlier. Instead of canceling the show, The Jerry Garcia Band stepped in and delivered a poignant performance.

The Jerry Garcia Collection, Vol. 1: Legion of Mary CD

Garcia formed Legion of Mary in 1974 for a seven-month concert run that spawned a treasure trove of electrifying performances known only to a few lucky concertgoers and dedicated tapers. Featuring Merl Saunders, John Kahn, Martin Fierro and former Elvis drummer Ron Tutt, the quintet conjured an inspired rock and jazz vibe.
