Allman Brothers Band Plan 26 Date Summer Tour

The Allman Brothers Band will hit the road for 26 summer tour dates that will find them playing everything from amphitheatres and festivals to theaters. As previously reported, the group will also play a handful of shows with Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.

On various dates, the group will be supported by the Yonder Mountain String Band and a rotating cast of Allman Brothers Band member side projects: guitarist Derek Trucks’ namesake band, guitarist Warren Haynes’ Gov’t Mule and bassist Oteil Burbridge’s Oteil and the Peacemakers. The group is rounded out by vocalist/keyboardist Gregg Allman, drummers Butch Trucks and Jaimoe and percussionist Marc Quinones.

The first leg of the Allmans’ tour opens June 16 in Cincinnati and closes July 2 in Solomons, Md. The second leg runs from an Aug. 12 Hartford, Conn., show to a Sept. 1 gig at Colorado’s majestic Red Rocks Amphitheatre.

While Gov’t Mule will support the Sept. 1 show, the band will headline Red Rocks the next night. Gregg Allman and Haynes will team up for a special acoustic set at that show.

Despite no news of a new studio album on the near horizon, the ABB has been busy on the road. In addition to the upcoming dates, the band played its annual extended March run at New York’s Beacon Theatre, followed by headlining their own two-night Wanee Festival last month in Florida with Medeski, Martin & Wood, O.A.R., North Mississippi Allstars and the Dirty Dozen Brass Band also on the bill.

“Over My Head” will be the new single from “Other People’s Lives.” It will be sent to radio to coincide with the tour. Also, Davies will be taping an hour-long Austin City Limits show while in Austin for airing on a date soon to be announced.
