With only a few weeks left till Camp Bisco V, we spoke with The Disco Biscuits’ Jon Gutwillig and Marc Brownstein while practicing in their Philadelphia studio. With newcomers The Roots, Thievery Corporation, RJD2 onboard and old friends The New Deal and Benevento Russo Duo coming to camp, this year’s event should not be missed.
The initial lineup for VEGOOSE 2006 has been announced and will take place over the course of Halloween Weekend on October 28 & 29 at Las Vegas’ Sam Boyd Stadium. The Vegoose at Night Concert Series will be announed shortly, along with a number of other bands who will be playing at the festival.

Dave Chapelle has quietly scheduled a cross-country tour that will keep him on the road for most of August.
The comedian will wrap his sold-out 15-show residency at San Francisco’s Punch Line August 9, then hightail it to Norfolk, Va., two days later to launch a road trip that will take him through a dozen cities.
He’ll take almost no days off during the next couple of weeks, hitting Pittsburgh, Detroit, Boston and more.
Two shows are booked for Toronto’s Massey Hall, and he’ll wrap the run with another pair of gigs at the Borgata Hotel / Casino in Atlantic City, N.J., August 25-26.
Chappelle toured briefly in February with Mos Def and Erykah Badu opening, and hosted a series of sold-out gigs in Florida this June.
The hit Comedy Central series “Chappelle’s Show” has been on indefinite hiatus since Chappelle left abruptly in April 2005. In an appearance on the Bravo channel’s “Inside The Actors Studio” earlier this year, the comedian said he’s been enjoying getting back to live performance.
“When I’m on stage, I get real happy there,” Chappelle told host James Lipton. “Maybe that’s the only time in my adult life I feel like myself.”

Wilco percussionist Glenn Kotche and guitarist Nels Cline will hit the road together for a handful of dates this fall, beginning Sept. 18 at Lincoln Center in New York. Kotche will be supporting his most recent release, “Mobile” (Nonesuch), which was released in March. Cline will be supporting material from his last two Cryptogramophone sets, “Instrumentals” and “The Giant Pin” (which featured Jon Brion and Deerhoof drummer Greg Saunier).
Kotche will also be featured at the Modern Drummer Festival Weekend 2006 on Sept. 16. Other artists set to perform at the event include Death Cab For Cutie’s Jason McGerr, the Police’s Stewart Copeland, Mastodon’s Brann Dailor and Danny Seraphine.
Meanwhile, work continues on Wilco’s new album. Having just played Lollapalooza in Chicago, Wilco will regroup for three shows in early October; frontman Jeff Tweedy will play solo on Aug. 16 at the North Carolina Museum of Art in Raleigh and at the Folks Festival in Lyons, Colo., on Aug. 18.

Superchunk frontman Mac McCaughan will take his “other” band, Portastatic, out for a round of concerts this September and October.
The new Portastatic album, Be Still Please, will drop October 10, and the group will launch the headlining tour the following day in Philadelphia.
Recent Matador Records signing Jennifer O’Connor will open on the trek, which spans 10 shows in 11 days. They’ll stick to the East Coast and South, wrapping in Atlanta October 21.
Portastatic will perform as a duo – with Margaret White joining McCaughan – on the M. Ward dates, but will expand to a full “rock band” for the October trek.
The group’s new album isn’t its first release of the year: The band released a soundtrack for the film “Who Loves The Sun” in June. It’s Portastatic’s second film score, preceded by 2001’s “Looking For Leonard.”

“Wetlands Preserved,” the documentary film about the celebrated downtown New York rock club Wetlands (which debuted this past spring) will be featured in the Rhode Island International Film Festival being held this week. In addition to screening the 90 minute film, there will also be a half-hour conversation with Wetlands founder, Larry Bloch, director Dean Budnick and additional guests.
Through accounts of musicians, staffers and clubgoers, “Wetlands Preserved” explores the club’s legend, providing a full account of its rich history for the first time. While the independent nightclub supported new music scenes while also initiating successful activism campaigns, it also emerged over its 13 years as a proving ground and nurturing environment for numerous notable acts who built a fan base and gained renown at the club. Many of these riveting performances appear in “Wetlands Preserved,” which exclusively incorporates music that originated at The Wetlands. In addition to the Dave Matthews Band, Blues Traveler, Phish, and Pearl Jam, “Wetlands Preserved” also features songs from such artists as Ani DiFranco, Sublime, Ben Harper, moe., 311, Robert Randolph & the Family Band, KRS-1, Joan Osborne, Fishbone, Agnostic Front and Michael Franti & Spearhead.

Rock trio Secret Machines will reprise its in-the-round stage setup for its fall tour, which kicks off with an Oct. 2-3 stand at New York’s Irving Plaza. The band will perform on an elevated rounded platform in the center of each venue, in an effort “to have the audience become a bigger part of the musical experience,” according to group member Brandon Curtis.
The group will be out behind its spring Reprise release “Ten Silver Drops,” which debuted at No. 4 on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart.

Dave Matthews Band will be releasing its first greatest hits compilation “in the near future,” according to an email sent to the band’s newsletter subscribers. “In order to fulfill an obligation to their label,” DMB will compile both studio and live tracks for the set, a release date for which has not been announced.
Via an online poll, fans are being asked for their input on tracks for the as-yet-untitled album, including favorite live performances of a given song.
The hits package is an apparent requirement as part of the new contract DMB signed with RCA in 2004. The group is also at work on a new studio album, which will be the follow-up to 2005’s “Stand Up.”
DMB’s ongoing tour will run through Sept. 23 in Charlottesville, Va. The band will also open an Oct. 20 show in El Paso, Texas, for the Rolling Stones. DMB previously opened some shows for the band in 1998; Matthews’ guest appearance on “Memory Motel” went on to appear on the Stones’ live album “No Security.”
