A quick glance at Alison Krauss’ resume and what immediately pops out is the astonishing number of Grammys that she has amassed in her career – 27 in total –
“When Warren calls, you take the gig,” says Ron Johnson, the Brooklyn-based bass player, best known for his 10-year tour of duty with Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe.
His new, high profile gig is with the Warren Haynes Band and it brings him back to touring after a one-year break from the road.

The seeds for his involvement with Warren Haynes Band were planted three years ago. “I just remember hearing from J. Bau (part of the Warren Haynes’s management team) that Warren was making a solo record,” recalls Johnson, “and without even hesitating, I said, ‘if he tours that thing, I want a shot at it.’”
By chance, album bass player George Porter Jr. was not able to make the band’s first performance at the 2010 Christmas Jam. For Johnson, it was less of an audition and more of a one-off gig. “I’m not sure if they knew if Porter was going to do any touring following the record. I just know that Porter couldn’t do Christmas jam and he gave me his blessing to fill those shoes.”

Since 2004, The McDowell Mountain Music Festival has served as a vital event for fans of roots/world/jam based bands that typically skip the Phoenix market on their tour routes. With a list of prior headliners ranging from The Flaming Lips, The Black Crowes, Ratdog, Gov’t Mule and The John Butler Trio; The McDowell Mountain Music Festival has staged a local festival that can be best summed up in one word – “chill.” With 100% of the festival’s proceeds benefiting local charities Phoenix Day and Ear Candy, it goes without saying that his year’s event offers a lot to feel good about

The Belle Brigade are influenced by artists spread across different genres, and name Simon and Garfunkel, The Beatles and Stevie Wonder as musical inspirations. One would call their album as folk-rock, infused with tight harmonies, catchy melodies and danceable rhythms. When Barbara and Ethan sing, they sing as one tightly knit, well-executed, story-telling voice. Being siblings as well as best friends give the other a solid shoulder to lean on. At the end of their set, Barbara could not be happier introducing her younger brother to the appreciative crowd in San Luis Obispo.
Acerbic, arcane, and completely chaotic, Reggie Watts is one of the hottest names in comedy right now. Part funk musician, part beat-boxer, and full-time improvisational humorist, Watts has gained a great deal of exposure largely due to Conan O’Brien, who championed him as the opening act on last summer’s Legally Prohibited From Being on Television tour (Watts hilariously refers to him as Jimmy Fallon during this set). Since then, he has been touring worldwide and making frequent guest spots on Conan’s new late-night TBS talk show.
