Here’s a look at the initial Summer Camp Music Festival 2012 lineup.
Northwest String Summit @ Horning’s Hideout – July 21-24
In 2002 the Horning Family of North Plains, Oregon welcomed roughly 1,000 guests to their breath-taking Horning’s Hideout for the inaugural Northwest String Summit (NWSS), hosted by Yonder Mountain String Band (YMSB). Now, 10 festivals later the NWSS has become the Pacific Northwest’s go-to acoustic music festival.
The 10th annual “Strummit” ran July 21-24, 2011 featuring over 15 bands on one stage, including three three-hour headlining sets by YMSB. This year marked the largest Strummit yet welcoming: the first official Thursday opening, the Cascadia Coffee House, a new forest hollow acoustic stage, free late night sets and an official Kinfolk Hall of Fame induction. Between the rolling green trails, sky-scraping trees, peacocks and endless acoustic jams the NWSS was truly a picker’s paradise that can only be summed up as “You had to be there.”
The gates to bluegrass Eden opened on Thursday, July 21 to the tune of Pete Kartsounes and Benny “Burle” Galloway. At dusk the evening turned into a Midwestern jamgrass haven featuring Chicago’s Cornmeal followed by Greensky Bluegrass from Kalamazoo, Michigan.

We’re barely a week into 2011 and we’ve already got our first major summer festival line up announcement of the season that has us excited for the warmer months ahead. Earlier today the fine folks behind the Wakarusa Music Festival dropped a monster list of bands that will take to the variety of tents and stages over the weekend of June 2 -5 at Mulberry Mountain in Ozark, Arkansas.
Now in it’s seventh year, the jam-friendly festival will be headlined by the mighty My Morning Jacket, who are joined at the top of the bill by Ben Harper & Relentless7, Thievery Corporation and STS9.
Other acts set to head to Mulberry Mountain this year will be HT faves Umphrey’s McGee, Mumford & Sons, Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings, Grace Potter & The Nocturnals, Galactic, Dark Star Orchestra, Perpetual Groove, Those Darlins and These United States.
A variety of ticketing options for the four day festival are currently on-sale, which include an early bird full event pass for the low price of $139.

It’s apparent to me that Summer Music Festival Season is in full bloom based on all the great tapes that keep coming out of recent weekends and quickly making it up onto the Live Music Archive. Leading off this week we’ve got a track from Cornmeal with a little help from friend Tim Carbone of Railroad Earth. Cornmeal will be playing MANY more festivals this summer and they play tonight in Memphis with Outformation.[audio:https://glidemag.wpengine.com/hiddentrack/wp-content/uploads/2009/06/cornmealsauce.mp3]
