45 Years Later: Revisiting The Ramones’ Still Topically Relevant & Heavy ‘Rocket To Russia’

Whoever would’ve thought that, with forty-five years of hindsight, The Ramones’ Rocket to Russia (released 11/4/77) would become so topically relevant? But all political and cultural issues aside, the prototypical punks’ third album both looks (in its black and hot pink color scheme) and sounds (in the comparative clarity of crashing guitars and drums) like their definitive work. And while it doesn’t quite render obsolete their eponymous debut or their resounding reiteration of that opening statement in the form of the sophomore album Leave Home, it certainly functions as a reliable benchmark for the genesis of punk.

The Damned Kick-Off UK Reunion Tour In London With Original Lineup

The forefathers of UK punk, The Damned, kicked off their short reunion on Friday, October 28. This wasn’t like any other show the band has done in decades, the original line up of Dave Vanian, Captain Sensible, Brian James, and Rat Scabies were all on stage and dug deep into their catalog for a night of nostalgia. Their current tour is in celebration of 45 years since they released their debut single “New Rose”, which is also the first punk song to be officially released in the United Kingdom. The original line up marches on for three more dates coming up this weekend in London.

Turnstile Rage With No Boundaries Or Rules At Chicago’s Aragon Ballroom (SHOW REVIEW)

Indeed, between the critically-acclaimed indie-rock of Snail Nail, along with hard-hitting experimental hip-hop courtesy of JPEGMAFIA, and of course crossover alternative hardcore heroes Turnstile heading up the top of the bill, Sunday night promised to be nothing short of epic for the thousands in attendance to witness the virtual smorgasbord of dopeness on display.
