Both Tift Merritt and Amy Cook have new albums out, and joined up to tour the West Coast together. Last night, they played magnificent sets at the intimate club Cafe du Nord in San Francisco, CA. Buzz about this year’s Outside Lands Festival began in mid-April, when Another Planet Entertainment and Superfly Presents (who also host the annual Bonnaroo Festival) announced this year’s lineup for the three-day event.
Amanda Palmer and the Grand Theft Orchestra performed two shows last week at Public Works in San Francisco, CA, as part of their pre-release tour behind Palmer's second solo album Theatre is Evil, due out on September 11, 2012. Glide staff photographer Joan Bowlen captured the two different shows– one of which was a plugged-in “rock” show (Friday, 07/13) and then a stripped-down, raw acoustic performance “art” show (Thursday, 07/12), which was open only to Kickstarter backers. The rest of the gallery focuses on the art Palmer commissioned for the record, which is being taken on tour with them this summer.
By bringing in new voices to add to their palette both on tour and on record, Ray and Saliers have fought obsolescence, and they’ve won.
