Sondre Lerche’s latest new self-titled release is a musical kaleidoscope filled with a plethora of stops, starts, and turns. Filtered through his trademark classical pop sensibilities, Lerche’s album will ring a few bells of familiarity to listeners. He pays homage to McCartney-esque Beatles: the dreamy “Coliseum Town”, Belle and Sebastian theatrical leanings: the lead single, “Private Caller”, and even hits a Chris Martin type falsetto on “Domino” before borrowing Wilco’s searing guitar squeal for the song’s ending.
Over the last few years, the Hollywood Forever Cemetery in Los Angeles, which boasts an impressive array of celebrities buried within its grounds, has played host to a series of unique concerts. The latest batch of artists to sign on to perform amongst the tombstones include Explosions In The Sky, James Blake, Mark Lanegan and Flaming Lips. The psychedelic-rock act, who will play the cemetery for two nights and one morning on June 14 and 15, will seize the opportunity by performing their 1999 breakthrough album The Soft Bulletin

Finally, influential live music website Daytrotter has announced the details for their 4th annual Barnstormer Tour. The five show tour will run from April 26-30, hitting actual barns in Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan and Iowa, and will include performances from site alums Sondre Lerche, Guards, The Romany Rye, Hellogoodbye, ARMS, Keegan DeWit, Mike & The Moonpies and Hands.

Finally, last week on Christmas Eve folks walking on Dublin’s famed Grafton Street were treated to a surprise busking session by a rather impressive ensemble of Irish musicians as Bono, Glen Hassard (The Swell Season/The Frames), Damian Rice and Mundy treated the gathering crowd to an hour long set that included covers of Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door and Stand By Me. The impromptu performance raised money for Simon Community, an organization which serves Ireland’s homeless population. Check out some of the performances from that night after the jump…
