22 Years Ago Today – Nirvana Tapes Renowned “MTV Unplugged” Performance (Watch “Plateau” With Meat Puppets)

22 years ago today (11/19/93), Nirvana tapes an all-acoustic show for “MTV Unplugged” at Sony Studios in New York. Cris and Curt Kirkwood of the Meat Puppets sit in on three Meat Puppets songs. The show is shot in one take – imperfections and all – and is aired one month later. MTV Unplugged in New York was the first Nirvana album released following the death of Kurt Cobain. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, and has become the group’s most successful posthumous release, having been certified 5x platinum in the United States by 1997.  It also won the Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album in 1996. The performance was released on DVD in 2007. Watch the band perform  the Meat Puppet’s “Plateau” with the Curt and Cris Kirkwood of the band.
