20 Years Ago Today – Phish Stage ‘The Great Went’ Festival In Limestone, Maine (Listen to “Also Sprach Zarathustra” 2001)

20 years ago today (8/16/97), Phish kicked off their first of three festival visits to Loring Air Force Base in Limestone, Maine with The Great Went. The two-day festival began with rain but by the final day, a couple thousand fans enjoyed the sunnier weather for a mass group nude photo. As for the music itself, Phish performed seven sets of music over two nights, including a late night disco set at 2:30 AM featuring all four members on keyboards. Musically the festival marked crowning versions of “Wolfman’s Brother,” “Cities,” “Down with Disease, “Bathtub Gin” and “Also Sprach Zarathrustra (2001)”.
