25 years ago today (2/7/94), Cake released their debut LP Motorcade of Generosity. Although it spawned no singles or wasn’t as revered as the rest of their catalog, the off-kilter Sacramento band with a lead trumpet and singer John McCrea’s spoken word dry-toned delivery, earned the band its niche. 1996’s Fashion Nugget would see the band make a dent on alt radio with “The Distance” and the band would have similar success with future albums.
