25 years ago today (6/11/96), Grateful Dead drummer went as pop as he can possibly get with his project Mickey Hart’s Mystery Box. The album release on this date came less than a year after Jerry Garcia’s death, but it appeared Hart had the drums in motion for quite some time on this project that merged Hart’s percussion-based world music with the vocal harmonies of the British singing sextet the Mint Juleps. Robert Hunter wrote the lyrics for all the songs, so that fact alone makes the album worth a revisit
