25 Years Ago Today – Queen of Jazz/First Lady of Song Ella Fitzgerald Dies at 79 (Watch “Summertime” Live ’68)

25 years ago today (6/15/96),  American jazz singer Ella Fitzgerald who was often referred to as the First Lady of Song and Queen of Jazz died at age 79. With her improvisational ability and scat singing style, her collaborations with Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington are that of legend. With summer solstice approaching this weekend, let’s watch Fitzgerald give her classic rendition of “Summertime” live in 1968.
