25 years ago today (4/23/96), a then relatively unknown Austin band named Spoon released its debut full-length LP Telephono on the Matador label. Recorded on a tiny budget, the album didn’t sell much or herald the band to club headlining status, but it helped set the creative course where Spoon stands today as a musicians’ and critics’ band, able to do whatever they please in the studio. Over the course of nine studio albums with no stinkers, Telephono now stands as an important steeping studio in one of indie rock’s finest catalogs. Listen to “Don’t Buy The Realistic”off Telephono
