30 years ago today (7/25/89), Beastie Boys released their second LP Paul’s Boutique. Featuring production by the Dust Brothers, the album is noted for being almost completely composed of samples, excluding the group’s vocal output. Although the album didn’t commercially succeed their debut Licensed to Ill, the album’s popularity and legend has succeeded that of its predecessor, even noting the first time most people head the artists featured in the samples. Check out “Looking Down The Barrel of A Gun” featuring samples of “Last Bongo in Belgium” by Incredible Bongo Band and “Mississippi Queen” by Mountain.
