30 Years Ago Today – David Bowie Launches 87 Date Glass Spider World Tour (Watch “China Girl/Rebel Rebel”)

30 years ago today (5/30/87) David Bowie kicked off his 87-date Glass Spider world tour at the Feyenoord Stadium, Rotterdam, Holland.  Launched in support of 1987’s Never Let Me Down, the tour’s set, described at the time as “the largest touring set ever,” was designed to look like a giant spider. It was 60 feet (18.3m) high, 64 feet (19.5m) wide and included giant vacuumed tube legs that were lit from the inside with 20,000′ (6,096m) of color-changing lights. A single set took 43 trucks to move. Bowie’ lead guitarist on the tour was Peter Frampton. Watch Bowie perform “China Girl” & “Rebel Rebel” from the tour…..
