30 Years Ago Today- Pixies Merge Surf & Space Rock With ‘Bossanova’ Release (Watch “Velouria” Video)

30 years ago today (8/13/90), Pixies released Bossanova, their third studio album, and their college rock take on space and surf rock. The album did exceptionally well in the U.K. and peaked at number three and wwo singles were released from Bossanova as “Velouria” and “Dig for Fire”; both charted on the US Modern Rock Tracks chart. The band except Kim Deal (who was working on her first Breeders album) relocated to Los Angeles, and the results are a blistering guitar album that still holds vital today. And yes, Pixies made real videos back then (although only played on MTV’s 120 Minutes) – let’s revisit their official video for “Velouria.”
